As snow falls in metro Atlanta, deicing is delaying some flights at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to air traffic control system updates.

Atlanta-based Delta said flurries at the airport have been brief so far and a handful of flight crews have requested deicing. “We are fully staffed for additional deicing if needed” on Tuesday afternoon, according to Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant.

The deicing is affecting some flights arriving in Atlanta, causing delays averaging 57 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s control system command center web page early Tuesday afternoon.

Some departing flights may be affected. Passengers should check with their airline.

Delta, the largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson, is waiving certain change fees for travelers who were scheduled to fly to, from or through Atlanta, Asheville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville or Tri-Cities, Tenn. Feb. 8 or 9.
